I've been running RC1 on a test PC for a few weeks now and it seems fairly stable.

More than anything though I'm just raising the point that it may install itself without asking via Windows Update ;)

CW boots up a little slower then it used to for me but other then that iris and cw seem to work the same.

Cool, CW and IRIS both work fine with IE7, which is something that didn't happen with the beta :)

* jaketo reaches for the upgrade button on main PC.

Just a point, this thread is about IE7, not an argument about which browser is better, we've already done that.

i upgraded to it yesterday. i agree that it is faster, and the tabbed browsing is a nice feature. With this new update, it is running faster than my other browsers.

Microsoft wants nobody to own IE6 (lack of security) so they are making IE7 automatic update. :p

Kalki, stop talking about IE and start moving along with FireFox dammit!!!

The more people that move to a browser the more the hackers will attack it, why do all your firefox users keep getting others to use it? All you've done is make firefox almost as insecure as IE

As for IE7, just another tabbed browser, but I think it needs some work on the tab bar interface. As with any tabbed browser mouse guestures would be really really nice. Without mouse guestures the only difference between a tabbed browser and non-tabbed is you have to go up to the tab bar to click the window you want instead of down to the taskbar, wow, big improvement! reversed direction omfg!!! Oh wait you can just move the taskbar to the top of the screen anyways...

IE is sucking off of firefox for once...seems like they're running outta ideas. You'd think microsoft would be a little more clever then that.

What exactly have they copied from firefox? If you mean tabs then firefox copied it too, netcaptor had it in 1997, about 4 or 5 years before phoenix 0.1 (renamed firefox later on) was even created. Opera had what looked more like a taskbar than real tabs in 2000, 2 years before firefox was created, and real tabs a year later around the time mozilla got its tabs. Plus since tabs are just an extra and sepcialised taskbar, and IE has run the windows taskbar since it's creation... Anyways tabs still seems mostly pointless to me without guestures :P.

Ultimately the concept of the 'browser' was perfected a long time ago, all that we're seeing now are new (and sometimes totally unnecessary) feautres and functions, and the occasional core function tweaking.

That the different browsers are looking more and more similar should be no surprise.

Coked_up_Smurf, you make some excellent points too :D

jaketo is right, especially about my points being excellent! Even if a browser doesn't have a certain feature you can probably get a plug in for it, it's really all about how the features are implimented, and what comes without plug ins (as most people are just far too lazy to d/l and install them).

Anyways Firefox 2 is out now, and they got cake from the IE team for it!
