AVG Pro or Norton Internet Security? They both seem to have their pros and cons. Which one do you prefer?

A lot of people complain that Norton is a system hog and uses too many resources that slow down their computer. That is why a lot of people don't like Norton.

How about none and online virus scan when you are suspicious of something. I just use Spyware Doctor and Zone Alarm.

Ya they both suck, McAfee (sp?) is a good one in my opinion, but one for cleaning then uninstall afterwards (biggest resource hog i have ever seen, but best clean i have ever had) would have to go with panda!

I agree, Norton is RAM hungry, and AVG just sucks.

Use Avast! or NOD32 anti-virus scanner.

Trust me, those are the best ones out there.

I agree with venge. Use avast!, but out of the two, norton definitely sucks more.

How's about rather than just psoting that 'this sucks' or 'that rules', we actually disucss why we think the way we do about certain products, and recount our experiences of them.

Sorry to be controversial but it might make this thread a little more interesting to read :D

Norton sucks! avast! Rules.
And to keep jaketo happy :P
Norton has popups for everything, takes up way too much ram, and block system files.
avast! does none of these, is easy to use and actually helps your computer.
How was that?

I usually don't install an anti-virus, I'm just weary of what I download.
For work we use Symantec, it works ok. I had Norton on a computer before and I didn't really like it. It's fairly common for an AV to require lots of system resources, it needs to read each file on access (if enabled).

Personally I use Avast! when I install AVs for friends. It's fairly small and simle and does the job :)

Best way to avoid viruses ought to be not running windows though :P

It's simple, NOD32 and Avast! have been tested and proven to be more efficient (RAM usage wise) and detect more viruses than any other anti-virus software. Also not to mention they update their virus database almost each day.

So in conclusion NOD32 + Avast! > all. End of story.

Avast is the best! it is everything you need, but a firewall.

Forgive me for playing Devil's advocate, but tested by whom, and where are the test results? ;)

anti-virus suck! they're more annoying than an actual spyware :P just using a program like spybot once in a while should do it; if you have doubts whether a file is a virus or not, you can always use an online checker.

I like Kaspersky and nod32. I am testing Windows Live One Care right now and it seems ok. You would be better off using Linux :) hahhaha..

I don't think there's anything wrong with AVs, it's just picking the right one. I'll bet you've had a bad experience with one before.

I did a work around this. It was a task;) ( Really iI aint going to do something like that vullentary).

Well we did some Checks and compared the packages. And we came to the conclussion that Avg was the best for normal internet users. Avg gives a avarage protection against virusses etc... and detects suspicious connections. Also a good point in Avg is the Ram usage it doesn't uses allot . If you see norton and mcafee ore bitdefender then like 60% of your ram is used by your antivirus :) .
Also another good point of Avg is if you have a firewall ore another peice of software of another av distributor he will not see it as a virus. But if you install norton and then mcafee you will go crazy of all the virus reports you get that mcafee is a virus.

So i say Avg pro/free doesn't really matter

I'm seeing a lot of allegations against various packages but no proof.

* jaketo may one day post about his personal and professional experiences with AV systems, but not just yet ;)

Before jaketo can say it:
Where are the results? You say they suck but give no reason. Why do they suck? We all know they suck, but that's just not enough. :P

I hate them all. I personally would not use anti-virus but I'm required by my school. I'm not stupid enough to download and install random programs so I'm pretty safe... plus I stay away from websites I don't trust.

Both of which are commenable practices, unfortunately the Evil Internet doesn't quite feel the same and would have no problem breaching your PC without you downloading anything or opening your browser.

He does have a point. But a firewall should stop (well, it's supposed to) any viruses getting into your PC without your permission. Personally, as I download quiet often, I need an AV to scan files as soon as I've downloaded it, before installing/unzipping.
