if some1 could answer this quickly so i can get on irc this week

i get this after i connect

* [10053] Software caused connection abort

i'm at hampton inn and i think they have some kind of security on their network b/c i can't get on koc either...i'm using websensebypass.com to get on koc

i can get on aim and msn fine....but irc keeps dying out

so is that software something that i got on my computer or is it the network?

:edit: 1 min later

IRIS also kills my IE connection

As I said i've gotten it to work before so its either fixable or your computer (or somehow all the hamptons i stay in work and yours doesn't)...did you try restarting? did you try a different server for irc? could always try proxy to get onto koc?

ZoneAlarm by default blocks IRC connections. At least I know for sure ZA Security Suite does. Grab a proxy or use the IP address that is in vengy's sig and try connecting to that.

Can you use the Java applet IRC clients?

Not quite sure how to use a proxy on mIRC, since I don't use mIRC. However the IP in vengy's sig is just supposed to be used as the server.

/server vengy's IP

http://uniqueinternetservices.com/configure-proxy-for-mirc.html

Seemed like a pretty good setup guide for proxies on mIRC. Try that out if vengy's IP doesn't work.

i got on w/ venge's site/irc

It has to do with either the socks connection or the router used by the place you're at. I'm going with the router. I've had the same problem before. It ALWAYS happens to me when I'm using a linksys router. I *believe* that when ALL firewall settings are turned off on the ROUTER, that things become fixed. I've only just recently figured that out, as I'd been using VPN to deal with the issue before. Basically, this is just more proof that linksys sucks. Ta-da!

GO! GO! GO MAGI! YOU'RE THE MAN! YAY ME!!! :) lol

Sadly Mags all that means is that a default security setting on your router is blocking IRC in some way, and that by turning off all the security features on your router it lets IRC work, although it also leaves you really vulnerable to all those really bad things of which The Internet is so full of these days ;)

The objective with any scenario like this is to work out exactly what the connectivity requirements are for your particular application i.e. the protocol and port it needs to use, and then if you have access to the firewall device, configure that accordingly to allow your application though in a secure manner, or if you don't have access, configure your application to use what's already available through the firewall.

My linksys router works perfectly fine for IRC, no configuration required for that.

You're right, Jake. That's exactly what the problem is. However, I've tried any number of configuration methods with the router. I've tried specifying different ports, protocols, which magical elves should be let through, etc. Sadly, Linksys is just gay.

My linksys router works perfectly fine for IRC, no configuration required for that.

Your Chief of Intelligence dispatches 1 spies to attempt to sabotage 1 of Emike55's weapons of type Linksys router.
Your spies successfully enter Emike55's armory undetected, and destroy 1 of the enemy's Linksys router stockpile. Your spies all return safely to your camp.

Take that, Emike!
