Internet acting weird?

Whenever i boot up my computer, my internet works normal and loads webpages instantly. After about 15-25 minutes, the internet starts loading webpages really slow, but when i download something, it's as fast as ever. I know you're thinking i just have too much cache/cookies, but i have firefox set to clear all cookies and cache when i close it, and the problem is still there. If i restart my computer however, the internet will be fast again for a period of time. I have tried Internet Explorer, and it has the same results.

I have:
Windows Vista Home Premium
8M cable internet
1GB RAM

Any ideas?

DNS problems....when it starts running slow try connecting to severs by their IP addresses and see if that speeds it up.

One wouldn't.

In the remote instance that the fault actually was DNS, one would purge ones locally cached DNS table by dropping to a command prompt and typing the following command -

ipconfig /flushdns

and then carry on as normal.

i went to the command prompt and typed ipconfig, but "flushdns" is "not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"

You need to type it exactly as I typed it, on one line, with the backslash between ipconfig and flushdns, and then hit the big 'Enter' key on your keyboard! :)

Sorry for the double post, but nobody has posted in four days. Anyone have any other ideas as to why my internet is acting like this?

i dont know if this would work for you, i had the same problem some time ago, so i created a limited user account on windows and now its super fast when using that account! works perrrfect for me :)

I called the support number for my ISP and they flat out told me that they have no clue why it's doing it lol.

As for the limited user account, i will try that out and see how it works.

BA, frankly there could be any number of reasons why your PC is acting as it is and without more information it will be very difficult to diagnose.

I'm liking where FK is going with his suggestion so I'd recommend following doing as he says but heed his warning also :)

Well, the problem's fixed. It turns out that my CA Internet Security Suite was the cause. One of the first things i tried was disabling my security, but the problem remained. When i uninstalled CA yesterday, my internet started acting normal. I'm not sure why i had to uninstall it, and not just disable it for the internet to be back to normal, but oh well. I'm now using spybot search and destroy, AVG free antivirus, and windows firewall. Ty for your help everyone.
