I've noticed my pc running like a dog recently after *cough* prolonged *cough* use, ie around 30minutes and if I carry on as per usual it will usually just turn off within 1 hour of usuage.

My laptop is and always has been, on my desk at home and I've only noticed recently that it's fan is pretty quiet, so at the moment to enhance ventilation I've aquired a few coasters to prop my laptop up.

Anyone got any idea what I can do about it? Im sick of shoving a desktop fan on it to even be able to run flash games on my computer without it lagging needlessly.

in the past ( i've overheated 3 lappys now)

once the fan stops and it starts heating up other things start going wrong....i've blown 2 motherboards just cause the fan stopped....and will probably blow a 3rd if i don't get this one in the shop soon

You're on the right lines Olivar. Raising the laptop to increase airflow is a good thing but see if you can access the fan and clean it if you can. Use a soft toothbrush or even better, a can of compressed air and blow as much impacted dust from the fan as you can.

Usually laptops overheat because people use them on their laps on a cushion or quilt or similar sio keeping it on a desk is a good call :)

Thanks guys, I might go for the compressed air option, dont trust myself being so delicate with a toothbrush!

And my previous laptop died a burnt out death as I left it turned on, on the carpet at home all day when I came back the whole house smelt like burnt plastic..yummy. We all learn! lol

I've found your problem. Your using vista. :D

I'm only have way joking, i use to have vista on my laptop till i discovered it sucked and slowed up my whole computer despite have 2gb ram and 1.8ghz dual core processor. I'm sure if you were running xp your computer wouldn't work as hard and be a lot cooler.

Yeah, like Jaketo said it is most likely dust build-up. Mine needs some cleaning also, just didn't have any compressed air around. Would just use my air compressor, which I use on my desktops, but since my laptop is worth much more I am more concerned with condensation spraying out. Most laptops have a panel on the back above the fan/processor/etc, to have the best results you should probably unplug the laptop/pull the battery out and take that cover off and spray your compressed air into the fan from the inside and also spray around the motherboard etc. Anywhere you see dust.
