Okay so the bad computer viruses caught up to me and wanted to see who we have here that would help me with the new one. I ended up getting a gateway this time instead of a dell main because I could use my graphic card on this one I had plus started with 8 ram off the start (not really sure what the is but my old one only had 4 lol). So I know alot say off the get go there is ALOT of programs on a stock cp that you don't need and you can make it run ALOT faster if you take them off so wanted to see if I could get a bit of help with this since I have seen lots of links and sites with this info but don't really trust them.

Blackness, I would really like to answer you, but I'm not sure I understand everything you said. :/

I think you were saying you found a computer compatible with your old graphics card and you're getting 8 gigs of ram on your new computer? Also, you're concerned about the stock crap that is piled on before you get it and you wanna know what can be uninstalled and how to do it? Is that right?

Erm... For the files that are added on ahead of time, I recommend Google. Every computer is going to be different with what is added on before you buy it, and I can't tell you what to remove. Some of it may be important (like a graphic card driver) while other bits may not be important (like AOL). I'd google each program you are unsure about and see what it says. That's how I remove stuff I'm unsure of. Best of luck, Blacky. Catch me on MSN. I've got some stuff for you.

Yeah there is ALOT of stuff on this one (its got vista too which is new to me I was using xp) and am sure i don't need ALOT of it and figure time to free up some space.

Hmm... Yeah, I'd just google each thing you are interested in removing. Since what is installed varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, model to model, and year to year (maybe month to month?), it's really impossible to give you an answer on what to take off. I'd say any games or promos you see are easily removable, but other than that, I just don't know, I'm afraid. Again, google is the best way to tell what is worth keeping (like a graphics card program) and what is worth removing (like an ad program). :)

In purest terms, if a manufacturer sells you a PC with an OEM version of an OS e.g. Windows XP, Vista etc, under the terms of Microsoft's licensing the manufacturer is obliged to supply you with a vanilla copy of the OS if you request it, although most will deny this and insist that you use the branded, bloatware-laden version that they supply.

I can't comment on the laws covering the supply of goods and services in the US (Walker!!!!) but push them hard enough and they might cave :D
