Is there an option to have your quicklaunch icons smaller ?

I hope Windows 7 will be better than Vista... I hate it because vista take too much memory and battery on my laptop than Windows XP

Windows Xp is a legend and always will be!

Intalled it into a VM at work today and then had about five minutes to play with it before I had to go do some real work with real computers..!

More play soon I hope.

Are they releasing yet another incomplete OS?
I recently bought a Mac (Macbook Air) and I'm really happy with Mac OS X... Especially that you can choose Unix console (Darwin) or the graphical interface.

Win 7 could be good I guess... but I doubt it... I still find Windows 98 to be one of the best... ok, so it wasn't stabile but it was fast and you didn't have to load every freaking dll possible from the start etc. XP is decent too.

I liked MS-DOS 6.22, nice one...

Ewww Kalki has a Mac , you deserve to be mocked over and over again .

Incomplete OS ? Where ? Certainly with such a large amount of users MS has to cater for its very hard to make the OS fit everyone's requirements out of the box .

Is it that hard to make an OS that works? Look at all the fancy features they promised for Vista and then cut because they wanted to get it out in time for all the holiday sales.

Microsoft frequently cuts corners by removing features rather then delay the release and make a quality operating system.

Here are my 5 gripes with Vista.

1. Why can't I defrag an entire drive? Whats the reason for only being able to defrag files 64mb or smaller?

2. Why does Vista eat up so much processing power and memory? Back when I had only 1GB, I could barely run some of my games and Battlefield didn't even work properly until I upgraded to 3GB of memorty.

3. Bad sound quality.

Why didn't CreativeLabs take the time to design proper sound card drivers? All they ever put out was some crappy beta driver, so my sound quality on Vista is terrible.

I have an Audigy 2 ZS Gamer and Logitech Z-640 speakers. Instead of getting decent 5.1 sound, its mostly 2.1. Had to use a 3rd party driver to get some acceptable sound, which even then wasn't perfect.

4. Windows Vista has been out for only 2 years and they are already working on the next version? Would it be possible to fix all the bugs in the first system then work on the second one?

I Know they have to sell new software to make money, but would be nice if they could take the time to properly fix the system.

If it takes them 5+ years to design a proper OS, I can wait. I would rather they take their time, then cut features/ corners in order to get it out on time.

5. Why does it have to ask for administrator permission every time I do something? I know its a security feature, but since you can't turn it off or disable it, it got very annoying.

6. Lastly, why is the EU wasting so much money on lawsuits against Microsoft? They have sued over both Windows Media Player and now Internet Explorer? They argue including them with Windows is a monopoly and anti competition, but fail to realize you can download them for free off the microsoft website.....

If Microsoft wants to include its own software with an operating system go ahead, in fact I insist. It helps them justify the giant price tag. Sure you could throw in some 3rd party software, but it would raise the price tag and anger buyers.

I agree with this and it seems the Gaming industry is also been doing it with massive patches being released afterwards.

Here are my 5 gripes with Vista.

1. Why can't I defrag an entire drive? Whats the reason for only being able to defrag files 64mb or smaller?

I havnt noticed this yet , but there are alternative defragment programs that do a great job in half the time .

2. Why does Vista eat up so much processing power and memory? Back when I had only 1GB, I could barely run some of my games and Battlefield didn't even work properly until I upgraded to 3GB of memorty.

Do you remember when winXP arrived people were complaining that they couldnt run it on 128 mb of ram ? The same thing happend here ,more advanced software requires more advanced hardware. This is to some extent a good thing as it forces some people to upgrade their systems .

Also note that Vista uses your memory that would otherwise be unused to speed up the OS by loading functions you often use into the memory , though it unloads it again when you require it for other applications.

Though i think there are quite a few services and proceses running unnecesasry.

3. Bad sound quality.

Your blaming MS here for Creative's lack of aftersales service ?
MS did re-write the audio stack that caused creatives drivers to not function as they should anymore though the result of new audio stack is alot less BSODs. And it also allowed other soundcard developers to enter the the gaming souncard market with more ease.

Creative did release a solution Creative Alchemy that fixes your problem .

MS mostlikely started working on Win7 after the release of Vista and maybe during its development , though they are working on fixing the few issues with Vista the OS should be mature when SP 2 is released.

5. Why does it have to ask for administrator permission every time I do something? I know its a security feature, but since you can't turn it off or disable it, it got very annoying.

You can disable UAC ( user account control ) Go to your user account setting under contro panel there should be a box that you can untick to not be annoyed by this .

I dont have a comment on the last point .
